Psst…. You know how it feels when you have this great secret and you’re just dying to tell someone…well that’s me this week.  I recently discovered a hidden gem tucked away in the Eastern Caribbean called the British Virgin islands (BVI). Your average Caribbean vacation usually involves  staying your entire week at the same resort on the same island eating at the same restaurants and doing the same activities…zzzz.  Not here it’s so easy to get around and create the ultimate island hopping  Caribbean adventure.  The BVI archipelago is a mosaic of over 50 islands, islets, and cays, each with its own personality and treasures waiting to be discovered.

Imagine starting your journey at Tortola, the largest and most inhabited island, where the bustle of Road Town’s marinas brims with yachts ready to set sail. Here, the blend of local culture, history, and lively beach bars offers a vibrant welcome. You can’t miss Cane Garden Bay, with its crescent-shaped beach and crystal-clear waters, ideal for a refreshing swim or a paddleboard session.

From Tortola, take a short boat ride to Virgin Gorda, known for the iconic Baths National Park. Picture this: giant granite boulders creating natural tidal pools, tunnels, and arches. Snorkeling in these aquarium-like conditions reveals a kaleidoscope of marine life. It’s not just about the beaches, though; hiking up to Gorda Peak provides panoramic views that are simply breathtaking.

After working up an appetite exploring underwater wonders, Virgin Gorda has some culinary gems. For a taste of local seafood, the Mermaid’s Dockside Bar & Grill is an excellent choice, offering fresh catches and a picturesque view of the marina. If you’re looking for a more upscale dining experience, CocoMaya is the go-to spot with its Latin-Asian fusion menu and beachfront setting — it’s a perfect spot to watch the sunset. Don’t miss trying the lobster tacos or the sushi, which are often highlighted as favorites.

As a travel advisor, I’ve learned that the secret to truly experiencing the BVI is to take it slow. Island time is a real thing, and it allows you to savor every moment, every sunset, and every conversation. Island hopping here is not just a trip; it’s a way to reconnect with nature, with others, and with oneself.

So, pack your flip-flops, charge your camera, and prepare your soul for a journey through the British Virgin Islands.
